Potential felon Donald Trump has asserted that he was too preoccupied with “saving millions of lives” from a potential nuclear holocaust during his presidency to effectively manage his business operations. The astonishing defense was unveiled in a transcript of deposition which aimed to counter allegations of fraud against Trump in New York state.

In an attempt to defend himself, Trump said: “I was very busy. I was – I considered this the most important job in the world, saving millions of lives. I think you would have [a] nuclear holocaust if I didn’t deal with North Korea. I think you would have a nuclear war if I weren’t elected.”

The Allegations in Question

The New York Attorney General Letitia James has accused the Trump Organization of inflating the value of its assets to manipulate bank loans, insurance claims, and tax benefits. According to the attorney general’s office, the company overstated its assets’ value by between $812 million to $2.2 billion in a single year.

In response, Trump claimed that he had “virtually” no involvement in the Trump Organization since launching his presidential campaign in the summer of 2015. He said: “My son Eric is much more involved with it than I am. I’ve been doing other things. I’ve been much less involved in it than –  over the last five years, five or six years – than ever before.”

Throughout his presidency, Trump’s business assets were placed in a trust managed by Eric Trump, along with Donald Trump Jr. and Allen Weisselberg – the former CFO who faced legal issues related to tax violations and was convicted of tax fraud in 2022. Eric, in his deposition, said that Weisselberg was no longer a trustee at the company and emphasized that his father was focused on endeavors beyond the Trump Organization, including his golf courses.

The transcripts were made public as part of a civil fraud lawsuit between Trump and the state of New York. In addition to the former president, his two eldest sons and two former executives were also named. Throughout the legal proceedings, Trump’s legal team has vehemently denied any wrongdoing on his part.

Politics, Business, and Biden

Trump defended his actions by comparing himself to President Joe Biden, stating that he wanted to be a “legitimate president” and that Biden engaged in both business and politics concurrently. The former president reiterated that his involvement in the Trump Organization was minimal starting from 2015. He said: “If you look at Biden, he certainly does business and politics at the same time. I felt I wanted to be a legitimate president. I was virtually not involved at all. I’d rarely have anything to do with anything having to do with the company. I really wasn’t interested, believe it or not.”

Trump Often Blames Others

News of the former president’s words was shared across the internet and people had a lot to say. Referring to the way he essentially blamed his son for any wrongdoing, one person wrote: “There you have it. No one is immune from being kicked under the proverbial bus to save his own neck. Even his own son.”

Trump’s Ego Knows No Bounds

For the most part, people were highly critical of the former president for his refusal to take accountability and own up to his crimes. “Donald really thinks he’s God’s gift, doesn’t he? He should never have been president. His ego knows no bounds,” one individual said.

Others discussed the way Trump behaves like a far-right dictator and sympathizes with those who fall under that definition. One person said: “Nonsense. Orange Donald is only interested in a Trump Tower in Moscow in exchange for Ukraine and writing love letters to Vlad Putin and Kim Jong Un.”

Trump Exaggerates His Accomplishments

Some people discussed Trump’s tendency to exaggerate his accomplishments. “He told [North Korea] to stop its missile program. It didn’t. He told Iran to stop its nuclear program. It didn’t,” one person wrote, referring to the way the former president claimed he’d saved “millions” from nuclear war.

Trump’s Fans Were Still Loyal

Despite the criticism, Trump’s fanbase was as blindly loyal as ever. “This is just more fake news,” one person wrote. “Just more liberal propaganda! President Trump did nothing wrong,” another echoed. “When will the left end this tirade against the greatest leader we’ve ever seen?” a third added.

Plenty of religious leaders claim to have some form of “divine protection” but not many of them are brave enough to attempt to prove it. One pastor, though, did possess that courage – or stupidity – and he locked himself in a cage of lions to make his point.
