Donald Trump is known for making bizarre statements and accusations. Now, the criminal defendant has accused GOP presidential hopeful Ron DeSantis of wearing high heels.
An Online Theory

A theory regarding DeSantis has been shared around the internet in recent days. It claims that the Florida governor is attempting to make himself appear taller by wearing concealed heeled inserts. Social media users have been zooming in on his boots to attempt to prove it correct.
DeSantis’ Hidden Heels

On social media, Trump shared one of these images. A yellow outline showed where DeSantis’ foot may actually have been in the boot, suggesting he was using inserts to appear taller. Text layered over the image read: “Tell me he’s not wearing hidden heels.”
A Terrible Candidate

Later, Trump attacked DeSantis once more. He said: “I am up on him by 57 points and going higher. He has proven to be a terrible and inept candidate who even fought Social Security and Medicare. He will soon be out of money and dropping out of the race. After having single-handedly gotten him elected governor, with no thanks or glory, it has been a beautiful thing to watch. Good luck Ron!”
Trump’s Main Opponent

DeSantis has been Trump’s main opponent for the Republican nomination since he announced his campaign. In the current polls, Trump is maintaining a strong lead at 57.4%, with DeSantis following him at 12.6%.
A Widening Gap

In recent weeks, the gap between the pair has widened significantly. While it’s a 44.8-point gap now, it was a mere 29-point gap back in April. A large contribution to this widening is candidates like Nikki Haley gaining more support.
A Race Far From Over

Despite Trump’s lead, DeSantis believes the race is far from over. He said: “This is going to be a state-by-state contest. We’ve worked really hard to build the type of organization in places like Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina that you need to actually be able to win these early [nominating] contests. And we’re gonna continue doing that. We got a lot of work but we’ve had a very, very favorable response.”
The Internet’s Response

News of the hidden high heels theory, and Trump’s endorsement of it, was shared across the internet and people flocked to comment sections to give their views. For the most part, people mocked both politicians. People said that Trump is being childish, implying that DeSantis is less of a man for potentially wearing inserts. They also criticized the Florida governor, pointing out that height really doesn’t matter in politics.
A Traitor Named Trump

One social media commenter wrote: “And? I hate DeSantis but what does his choice of footwear have to do with anything? When is America finally going to be done with the screwball traitor named Trump?”
Attacking Clothing Choices

Echoing the aforementioned commenter, another person said: “Does it matter? Who cares if he wears high heels? Oh my God, Trump is such a jerk. He did the same to other people in the past – attack their clothing. Is this what it has come down to?”
No Place in Politics

Others pointed out that such comments have no place in politics. One individual wrote: “Is that what politics has degraded to? Criticizing what other people wear? There you have it – two losers who don’t have any real relevance in politics!”
Trump’s Crazy Comments

Discussing Trump and his tendency to make outlandish remarks, another person said: “Does he dream about what his next crazy comments are going to be? Personally, I am so tired of his mouth and what comes out of it.”
A Middle School Commentary

Plenty of commenters compared Trump to a child. “One of the many elements of MAGA leadership, being able to evaluate an opponent’s attire and then apply a middle school commentary about it,” one person wrote.
Shoes Used in Hollywood

Others left Trump out of the discussion and, instead, focused on DeSantis trying to appear taller. One individual said: “These kinds of shoes are real and are called ‘lifts.’ A lot of short Hollywood men wear them, like Tom Cruise.”
Putin and DeSantis

Another commenter wrote: “Putin wears the same boots. It’s a little man complex. Even tall people can have them. It stems from being a total [scaredy cat] in real life so they need to feel powerful wearing their high heels.”
Frail and Insecure Ronnie

People weren’t surprised at all when they heard the theory. “And here I thought he was just proudly showing his clown heritage with those boots! Makes sense though. I could 100% see someone as frail and insecure as Ronnie putting this much effort into making himself feel taller,” one person said.
The Orange Clown

Criticizing both far-right politicians, another individual wrote: “Dude over here worried about his stature instead of being worried about how big of an idiot he is. Same with the orange clown. Such a bunch of idiots, dude. Can’t believe the U.S. has these kinds of politicians.”
Weird to Walk In

One person, having previously tried shoes similar to the ones DeSantis was sporting, recounted their experience. They said: “I tried those shoes that made you taller once. I think being taller does work in how the opposite sex sees you but they are weird as hell to walk in. So I would rather walk comfortably.”
DeSantis in Drag

Others responded with humor. One such individual wrote: “DeSantis… wearing high heels? Is this… drag? Prison! Prison now, I say! Yeah, obviously I’m joking but this is kind of hilarious given his disgusting opinions about a beautiful and harmless art form.”
