“If You Have a Child That Goes to School, Get the Highest Value Life Insurance Policy You Can”: Teacher Delivers Chilling Message About School Shootings

School shootings are the main cause of death among American children who go to school. As such, a teacher has given parents some terrifying advice.

The Teacher Posted to TikTok

The teacher posted a video, which now has over a million news, to TikTok. The clip begins with an odd statement, a statement most parents wouldn’t dare think about: “If you have a child that goes to school, right now, go get the highest value life insurance policy that you can.”

She Continued Delivering Her Vital Message

Nieka Richard, the teacher in question, lives in constant fear that her classroom might be next. The grade school educator continued: “If we all insure our kids, insurance companies will have no choice but to lobby with us.”

She Urged Parents to Get Kids to Ignore Fire Alarms

Nieka went on to urge parents to speak to their children about ignoring fire alarms at school. According to her, intruders often pull the alarm to lure people out of the classroom before an attack. It’s strange to think that, in a school, ignoring a fire alarm could be safer than evacuating. Nieka said: “I do understand that this poses another safety risk but dying in a fire at school [isn’t as likely as] dying from a gun at school.”

She Urged Parents to Do More

On top of insuring their kids to put pressure on insurance companies, Nieka urged parents to do more. She said: “Send emails, write letters, go to school board meetings – push for a single point of entry into every single school that is not attached to the main office.”

Schools as Gated Communities

Nieka also spoke about the potential for new schools to be built as gated communities, which she’s all for. Though it wouldn’t prevent all shootings, it’d certainly decrease the chances of intruders successfully getting into the building.

Suing School Districts

The teacher wasn’t done yet; she had even more advice for families. “If you, or someone you know, has been personally affected by school-based terror, I am so sorry. Sue the district. Whether you were in the school or in the area where a mass shooting occurred, you are entitled to compensation,” she said.

Turning Schools Into Prisons

Some of Nieka’s commenters felt that extra security would make schools seem like prisons. In response, the teacher posted a follow-up video where she explained that all businesses, like Apple, Google, and even courthouses, have safety measures in place to protect employees.

Redditors Discuss School Shootings Regularly

School shootings, unfortunately, aren’t uncommon in the US. As such, they’re discussed regularly across social media – particularly on Reddit, where users often try to find solutions. “I’m not sure if traditional gun control or adding protection to schools would be effective. At any rate, it seems that a number of high profile school shootings have mental illness as a root cause,” one user wrote, linking to a study claiming that 79% of recent mass shootings involved mental illness.

The Redditor Continued

The Redditor continued: ”It seems to me that not only is it difficult to get treatment for mental illness, but there’s an enormous stigma around being mentally ill. Bullying someone who is mentally ill just makes things worse. Unfortunately, removing stigma is non-trivial. Perhaps public awareness campaigns would help in revealing how common mental illness is. Combine that with improved access to help for those with mental illnesses. Access should probably be socialized.”

School Shootings Around the World

Some Redditors discussed the prevalence of school shootings around the world. One person wrote: “I suppose what really needs to be addressed is why they happen in the first place. School shootings are often viewed as a uniquely American phenomenon – but they are not. Similar shootings happen, but less [often], in Canada, Germany, Finland, and Scandinavia. Interestingly, they are almost unknown in Mexico or elsewhere In Europe.”

Others Looked for Links

Some Redditors asked if there were any definitive links between school shooters. One individual wrote: “Is there some definitive link for a majority of the shootings, like if all the perpetrators were bullied or had seen mental health professionals? I think gun control isn’t going to do much but I really have no hard evidence to back that up. I think mental health is the issue. I don’t know how you can forcibly make someone seek help though.”

International Redditors Were Confused

Some international Redditors were confused about the discussion. One person wrote: “Americans really will say anything to defend their gun laws, huh? Come on guys, sitting here watching you all claim basic gun control isn’t the answer would be hilarious if the situation wasn’t so dire and devastating.”
