“If He Thinks He’ll Be Able to Talk to You, He’s Way More Likely to Leave You Alone”: Woman Obtains Fake Phone Number to Trick Men

A woman on TikTok has shared a trick she uses to fool men into thinking they have her number.

Kendall Kiper, a 21-year-old TikToker living in Los Angeles, recently presented a solution to an issue that affects thousands of women –  the problem of men refusing to leave ladies alone in bars and at parties. Kendall began the video by telling viewers they would need to give men their number but quickly clarified she meant a fake one.

She Suggested Downloading a Free Texting App

The TikToker elaborated on the trick. She said: “They have a tonne of free texting apps. Download one of them. Get a second number. Have it on your phone and have it memorized as if it’s literally your own number. When he asks you for your number, if it gets to that point and you don’t want to give it to him, you’re gonna be like ‘oh, just give me yours.’”

Kendall Broke Down the Solution Further

Kendall explained her special solution further, advising viewers to text the man then and there. She said: “You’re gonna text him right then and there from the text app. Let’s say you have an iPhone, and it comes across as a green text because it will, this is your time to shine. You’re gonna be like ‘dude, we’re in a bar right now. I have really bad service, but when I text you later, it’s gonna come across as iMessage.’”

The TikToker Explained the Psychology Behind the Trick

Kendall went on to explain why the trick works and, more specifically, why mentioning texting later is important. “The reason this works is that you are insinuating that the conversation you’re having  – right there and then with him – is going to be continued later. If he thinks he’ll still be able to talk to you, he’s way more likely to leave you alone,” she said.

The Trick Has More Benefits

The 21-year-old continued to discuss the benefits of the trick. “Even if, like, he just won’t stop talking to you but he hasn’t asked you for your number yet, this still works because you can cut the conversation wherever and be like ‘hey, give me your number’ because he’s gonna do it right then and there. You do exactly what I’m telling you and he’ll be gone.”

Kendall Tried Other Solutions First

The TikToker went on to talk about how she’d tried several other ways to get men to leave her be, including lying about being in a relationship and claiming to be gay. She explained that neither of those worked because men said “he doesn’t have to know” to the former and “I bet I could be the guy to change that” to the latter.

Her Video Led to Discussions About Equal Rights

Kendall’s comments, while somewhat divided, were mostly filled with support. Women shared their own tips, tricks, and stories and people discussed the implications of these kinds of precautions being necessary. “But I would feel bad if I don’t text them back,” one person said. Kendall replied, explaining that she doesn’t do this to nice guys – only creepy ones.

The TikToker’s Posted Similar Videos in the Past

Kendall has posted similar content in the post, most notably a video about how she uses reverse psychology to get men to buy her drinks. “This is my best kept secret to get a free drink at the bar. I’ve only had this not work for me one time — and I do this way more often than I care to admit,” she TikToker said.

Her Suggestion Was Actually Quite Clever

Kendall told viewers to get in line at the bar and to look for a man who seems to have a big ego. She instructed viewers to approach the man, strike up conversation, and offer to buy him a drink. “Like I said, the ego is a big factor in this. They are gonna look at you and they’re gonna be like ‘What? No!  What? Let me buy you a drink,” the TikToker explained.

She Knew It Would Be Controversial

Kendall admitted that tricking men into buying drinks for her isn’t the kindest of things to do. She defended it, though, by reminding viewers of the way men treat women far too often. “Let’s not forget how men like to treat us 95% of the time,” the TikToker said. Considering harassment is common enough for women to feel the need to get a fake phone number, it’s easy to see where she’s coming from.

Commenters Applauded Her Creativity

Kendall’s viewers applauded her creativity, with many commenters wishing they’d come across the trick sooner. “Actually the smartest thing I’ve ever heard,” one person said. Others said they’d tried the trick before and found it to be incredibly successful. “I’ve done this before in my single era and let me tell you – this works,” another individual wrote.

Some Viewers Were Concerned About the Risks

Others doubted Kendall’s trick and expressed concerns about all the things which could go wrong. “But what do you do if he agrees and you have to buy him a drink,” one person said. Others commented with similar thoughts. One individual wrote: “I don’t trust this enough to try it. If it doesn’t work, and I end up buying some guy a drink, I’ll be angry.”
