Former president Donald Trump has had a busy couple of months, in addition to his court appearances to defend himself against the fraud lawsuit launched by the New York Attorney General. As news agencies started reporting that Trump had sold his beloved Mar-a-Lago residence for an astounding nine-figure sum amid his mounting legal issues, rumors started to circulate. The rumors, which the Trump family quickly refuted, were based on a false real estate listing and sent them tumbling.

How Did the False Real Estate Listing End up on the Internet?

According to Zillow, a Mar-a-Lago listing on a real estate website Recently sold the Palm Beach lot for a whopping $422 million on August 4, 2023. The now-disproven selling date occurred just a few weeks before Trump turned himself in at the Fulton County Jail in Georgia on charges he plotted to rig the state’s 2020 election. Given that this is the fourth charge the former president has faced in less than a year, there has been much suspicion that he may be attempting to raise money in order to pay for growing legal costs. But nothing was as it appeared.

But Who Authored This False Report?

Zillow claimed that adjustments to the listing had been made as a result of an inaccurate report in a statement to Newsweek. “Zillow strives for accuracy on our site, and if we become aware of inaccurate information, we will update it immediately,” their spokeswoman added. The results of the inquiry suggest that the information was false. The information on this property has been updated. Zillow acknowledges that information on a property “may have been provided by a third party, the homeowner, or public records” on their website. Since then, the listing has changed to “off-market,” and Mar-a-Lago’s property history no longer contains the bogus information.

‘Mar-A-Lago Has Absolutely Not Been Sold nor Will It Ever Be!’

Eric Trump, the son of the 45th president, disagreed with the assertion that the estate had changed ownership. “Mar-a-Lago has in no way been sold and never will be. This is a ridiculous myth,” he told Newsweek. According to a story by The Express, Trump may have given his eldest son ownership of Mar-a-Lago rather than selling the property. There is no proof that ownership of the property has changed, even though Donald Trump Jr. is listed as the director of Mar-a-Lago Club, Inc., one of the few businesses that list the Palm Beach home as its primary location. Who knows what will happen at Trump’s mansion in Florida next?

A Brief Account of Mar-A-Lago Interesting History

Built in the 1920s for the colorful heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post, Mar-a-Lago is a private estate. Post lavished $7 million, or $122 million in today’s money, building the sumptuous 118-room home in the Spanish-Moorish style. Mar-a-Lago was given to the US government to use as a permanent Winter White House after the wealthy scion died in 1973. But it turned out that the property was a poisoned chalice. There was never a president who remained there, and the upkeep expenditures were exorbitant. The estate was given back to Post’s foundation in 1981 according to a congressional act.

Later, Mar-a-Lago was placed up for auction. Trump made an offer, but the Post family rejected it after learning about the property from a Palm Beach cab driver. When the family declined to sell him the estate, the real estate magnate made the decision to play dirty, informing them he had purchased a plot of property in front of Mar-a-Lago and would build an eyesore there. The bold plan succeeded, and in 1985 Trump purchased Mar-a-Lago and all of its belongings for an estimated $8 million, or almost $23 million in modern currency.

Trump’s 1995 decision to turn Mar-a-Lago into a private members’ club led to a dispute with Hollywood actress Dina Merrill, the daughter of Post. She objected to the club in a letter to the local council, which infuriated the real estate magnate. In his 1997 book Trump: The Art of the Comeback, Trump continued by referring to the actress as “an arrogant and aloof daughter who was born with her mother’s beauty but not her brains.”

Trump’s connection with Jeffrey Epstein, which began in the 1980s and lasted for over two decades, was dubbed an “epic bromance” by Vanity Fair. At Mar-a-Lago, the couple spent a lot of time together. One of the victims claims that Epstein met her at Mar-a-Lago when she was just 14 years old and presented her to Trump, despite the fact that Trump denies knowing Epstein well and claims he was unaware of his misdeeds. There was no claim of impropriety against the previous president.

Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s co-defendant, and Trump got along well. The duo appeared to have a cordial connection when they were seen together at Mar-a-Lago in 2000, and after she was arrested in 2020, Trump allegedly sent his best wishes to the heiress.

However, some MAGA fans have harshly criticized her for doing so. In 2016, things were so awful that she even thought about leaving the country in order to protect her family.
