With his new role as a senior CNN political commentator, Kinzinger made his thoughts on Trump clear. He openly declared, “Donald Trump is a coward. He’s scared to death of Chris Christie. I think Chris Christie is gonna wipe the floor with him, and I think that’s what he’s afraid of.”

Kinzinger has high praise for Chris Christie’s debate abilities. Recognizing the former New Jersey governor’s prowess, he emphasized how Christie could “bring the show and point out the cowardice of Donald Trump.” These remarks hint at Kinzinger’s beliefs about Christie’s skills as both a showman and a fierce opponent.

Kinzinger noted that while Christie might be a key figure in the debate discussion, there’s more to Trump’s evasion. Apart from the Christie factor, Kinzinger urged Trump to address the wider Republican audience. He implied that the Republicans deserve an explanation for Trump’s consistent debate absences.

Going beyond just debates, Kinzinger expressed concerns about Trump’s performance within the Republican party. He pointedly said, “The Republicans have done nothing but lose since Donald Trump.” Kinzinger openly challenged Trump to defend his record and explain how he intends to lead successfully in future endeavors.

Trump’s Own Words

In response to the growing speculations and criticisms, Trump took to Truth Social to clarify his stance. “The public knows who I am & what a successful Presidency I had,” Trump said. He then stated, “I WILL THEREFORE NOT BE DOING THE DEBATES!” reflecting his decision to avoid traditional political discourse.

Trump’s Media Moves

Coinciding with the first GOP primary debate, Trump made a strategic move by releasing an interview with Tucker Carlson. This media appearance, posted at the same time as the debate, was viewed by many as a diversion tactic. With Trump absent from the second debate as well, the public is left speculating on his motivations and whether he will ever return to the debate stage.

Scarborough’s Take on Trump’s Courage

In response to these statements, several reporters shared their thoughts. Joe Scarborough of MSNBC spoke about Trump’s reluctance to debate. He agreed with Kinzinger, saying Trump “will not have the guts to go on stage with Chris Christie.” Furthermore, Scarborough painted Christie as a “ruthless” prosecutor, emphasizing that Christie’s debate skills could potentially corner Trump.

Chris Christie, in a conversation on MSNBC, discussed Trump’s debate choices and motivations. He openly questioned Trump’s reasoning, pondering, “If what he was saying were true… why wouldn’t you come on to the stage and take a victory lap?” Christie’s taunts didn’t end there. He further ridiculed Trump on various platforms.

Highlighting Trump’s explanation regarding the unreleased documents, Christie mockingly said, “He said the reason he didn’t give the documents back was that he was just so very busy.” Drawing attention to Trump’s casual defense, the former New Jersey governor stated, “I think the problem is going to be, for him over time, is that people are just not going to buy it.”

Christie Foresees Trump’s Strategy

A few months before this debate, Christie also confidently predicted that Trump would steer clear of the debate platform. Christie even went on to label Trump a “certified loser, verified coward.” He agreed that the former president feared a direct confrontation and was “running scared and hiding from the debate stage.”

Walsh’s Unique Insight into Trump

Former congressman Joe Walsh echoed Kinzinger’s sentiments regarding Trump’s perceived cowardice. However, he offered a slightly different take on Trump’s feelings towards Chris Christie. In Walsh’s opinion, Trump isn’t intimidated by Christie. Instead, he stated, “Christie is no threat to Trump, and Trump knows it.”

Instead, Walsh proposed a different theory about Trump’s absence from debates. He believes that Trump’s strategy hinges on being the singular focal point, even if it means missing out on debates. Walsh elaborated, saying Trump feels “He’s skipping the debate because he has to be THE story.” He argued that Trump has a desire to dominate headlines.

Celebrating Kinzinger

Many took to social media to praise the former representative, with one user stating, “Kinzinger is a true American hero.” Another expressed their support more as well, saying, “Adam Kinzinger for president! Honest vet, family, and a good republican. He stood up to death threats on himself and his family. There are some sane Republicans.”

Criticism Against Kinzinger

But not all reactions were in favor of Kinzinger. One user lashed out, saying, “Kinzinger is a clown who couldn’t win re-election. Same goes for Liz.” Another added with a hint of sarcasm, “This is funny! No way Kinsinger could face what Trump has faced for the last 7 years. Kinsinger is corrupt. Everyone knows it.”

Calls for Fresh Faces

However, in the political drama, some users expressed frustration with the current state of politics. One such comment read, “Need new blood in Washington and some Business thinking and COMMON SENSE. SICK and TIRED HEARING ALL THAT’s GOING ON and NOTHING DONE FOR THE BENEFIT OF OUR COUNTRY.”

Trump’s Controversial Legacy

Trump’s presence, or lack thereof, in the debates, brought varied reactions. One comment remarked, “Remember when media shrieked 24/7 that Trump was the agent of chaos and would bring instability to the world…and now we have Biden?” However, others disagreed, saying that Biden had nothing to do with this conversation.

Not a Coward

One user shared an interesting point, saying, “Trump is many things, but a coward isn’t one of them. Unlike most Democrats, many members of the GOP know when it is better to be quiet than to respond when many Republicans are split. The only thing all Republicans can agree on is Joe Biden needs to go.”

Predictions of Trump’s Legal Future

The debate wasn’t the only thing causing a stir. Anticipation regarding Trump’s future legal proceedings is clear. One user predicted with certainty, “3/2024, Trump will be in court, and I think most of us know that a Federal prison sentence is coming. The Constitution is safe now. Donnie and his cronies can rot in hell.”
