Some Very Harsh Language

Perhaps one of the most memorable instances in the book was when Obama referred to Trump as a “madman” and a “racist, sexist pig.” Obama’s use of this harsh language truly highlights his disapproval of Trump and his rhetoric.

Obama has been known to make negative comments about Trump before. In the lead-up to the 2016 presidential election, he openly questioned Trump’s qualifications and labeled him “uniquely unqualified” and “temperamentally unfit to be commander-in-chief.” This critique was delivered at a pivotal moment in the campaign, leaving a lasting impact.

During the Democratic National Convention in August 2020, Obama provided a comprehensive evaluation of Trump’s presidency. Speaking virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he asserted that Trump had failed to “grow into the job.”

The Serious Consequences

Obama attributed serious consequences to the aforementioned failure, including a high pandemic death toll, economic challenges, a tarnished global reputation, and unprecedented threats to democratic institutions. His critique set the tone for the 2020 election campaign.

Trump vs. Biden

That same year, Obama drew a sharp contrast between Trump and Joe Biden. He said that Trump was primarily concerned with “feeding his ego” while Biden prioritized “keeping you and your family safe.” Obama highlighted Trump’s preoccupation with the size of his inauguration crowd, suggesting that such concerns were misplaced amidst more significant issues. This comment shed light on the personal attributes and priorities of the two candidates.

He characterized it as “less than ideal” for the nation and highlighted the significance of a president who upholds the oath of office with sincerity and respects the democratic principles it represents.

In all of the instances discussed, Obama didn’t mince words when expressing critical views about Donald Trump. His remarks not only offered a glimpse into his personal sentiments but also played a significant role in shaping the political discourse during Trump’s presidency. Moreover, his critiques provide valuable insight into the complex dynamics of American politics during a turbulent period in the nation’s history.

Obama’s criticism of Trump has been discussed on social media on numerous occasions. “Obama was not a great president and yet he was much better than Trump. Trump just lied that his numbers were great. In reality, most of his achievements were a figment of his imagination or plain lies. If you compare numbers, Trump was the worst president of the U.S. ever,” one person wrote.

Plenty of people agreed with Obama’s words. “All these GOP tears but where did Obama lie? Spot on assessment of the Big Orange far-right tool,” one person said. “I mean, I’m no Obama fan but he’s not exactly wrong, is he?” another wrote.

A fair few commenters shared their own thoughts about Trump. One person said: “Everyone already knows that the criminal low-life dictator has no ability to think of others. He will always promote hate, violence, and discrimination that doesn’t fit here in America. It is proven in his attack against America when he went after the Capitol building.”

Dark, Cold, and Self-Righteous

Another commenter, also sharing their personal opinion about Trump, said: “You can’t possibly compare the two! The difference is day and night and Orange Man is clearly the night!  Dark, cold, and self-righteous!”
