Despite multiple gag orders, Donald Trump has continued to share his negative opinions about Justice Department officials. Following a $10,000 fine, the former president took to social media to voice his dismay.
Crazy in Hatred
Following the hefty fine, Trump claimed that Judge Arthur Engoron had “gone crazy in his hatred.” The judge issued the punishment after the former president made negative comments, seemingly about his clerk, to reporters.
A First in the State
Trump has claimed on several occasions that the gag orders are a violation of his First Amendment rights. Regarding Engoron, he wrote: “The judge in the New York State case refuses to accept the overturning of his decisions by the appeals court. This is a first in the history of the state! He has gone crazy in his hatred of Trump.”
Donald Trump’s Remark
After hearing about Trump’s comment, Engoron summoned him to the witness stand. The former president had claimed that Engoron was a “very partisan judge with a person who is very partisan sitting alongside him, perhaps even more partisan than he is.”
An Understandably Unimpressed Judge
Given that a gag order banning the former president from making any public comments about Engoron’s staff had been imposed, the judge was understandably unimpressed. Trump tried to argue that the remark referred to Michael Cohen – but Engoron wasn’t having any of it.
A Fake Case
Trump further criticized the court on social media. He said: “The radical left judge who should not be handling the fake and fully discredited case brought against me by the New York State Attorney General – it should be handled by the Commercial Division but should never have been brought – fined me $10,000 under his so-called gag order.”
A Trump Hater
The former president went on to claim that Engoron decided the case’s outcome “before the trial even started.” He later said he was “unhinged” and a “highly political and fully based Trump hater.”

News of Trump’s fine and his response to it was shared across the internet. For the most part, people thought it wasn’t a good enough punishment and that he should’ve been jailed for his gag order violations.

Trump Facing Consequences
Another person wrote: “Everyone’s talking about the money. It’s not about that. It’s about Trump not having control. I just heard he stormed out of the courtroom afterward, much to the surprise of his lawyers. It’s not about the money. It’s about him facing consequences for his actions and being told in front of a crowd, and the world, that he’s not credible.”
His Army Will Pay
Others said the fine was meaningless: “He doesn’t [care] about that fine and why should he? He’ll just use it to further his persecution narrative and get his army of idiots to give him even more money. The only way to shut him up is to sanction his defiance of court orders with jail. That’s it. But I don’t see any judge willing to put him in jail without a jury verdict, so he’s gonna continue.”

Quite a few people doubted Trump would ever pay the fine. One such individual said: “Yeah, he will not pay the fine and absolutely nothing will come of the ‘repercussions’ of not paying it. As with everything else they’ve threatened the traitor with, it’s just lip service to make it appear as if he won’t be treated special.”

Others called for the former president to be incarcerated: “He needs to be jailed. He has shown over and over that he has no remorse for his actions, will not learn, and his fanbase just covers all his costs… so fines will never work.”

One person described the judge’s actions as “deliberate.” They wrote: “This is very deliberate. The judge has to not show any deviation from the norm or Trump could argue he’s getting unfair treatment and that it really is a witch hunt.”

The commenter continued: “This is giving Trump ample opportunity to keep saying stupid [stuff] until it gets to be enough that he legally needs to be jailed. Third time is probably the charm, honestly. And lord knows Trump won’t waste any time getting there.”

Others pointed out Trump’s special treatment: “My friend was given jail time after attempting to explain to a judge that he was sitting in his car in his driveway to sit for a moment when a cop came onto his property to give him a DUI. DUI went away but he lost a lot because of it all.”

One person speculated about what a prison sentence for Trump could look like: “I know there seems to be a reluctance to jail Trump for security reasons but the military should be able to come up with a solution at Leavenworth that allows the Secret Service to oversee his sentence in solitary and keeps Trump away from civilian prisons.”
