“Jesus Was a Socialist”: Christianity in Crisis as Conservatives Finally Realize Jesus Was Woke

Russell Moore, once a prominent figure within the Southern Baptist Convention, has expressed profound concerns regarding the current trajectory of Christianity within the United States.

A Crisis Within Christianity

Moore expressed concerns about what he sees as a “crisis” within Christianity itself. Moreover, he claimed the teachings of Christ are being misconstrued as “liberal talking points” by believers. During a candid interview with NPR, he recounted his own experiences and shared anecdotes from various pastors who have faced challenges due to the current political climate’s impact on their spiritual responsibilities.

A Foundational Aspect of the Faith

The Sermon on the Mount, a revered doctrine found in the Gospel of Matthew, has long stood as a cornerstone of Christian moral principles. It’s guided Christians toward a life of love, humility, and peace for generations – or attempted to, at the very least. However, modern society has begun to cast doubt even on this foundational aspect of the faith.

Liberal Talking Points

Moore said that some individuals are questioning the origins of these teachings and dismissing them as “liberal talking points.” Even when pastors assert that they are directly quoting Christ, their words are often met with skepticism. “When the teachings of Jesus himself are viewed as disruptive to us, we find ourselves in a state of crisis,” Moore said.

A Profound Shift in Christianity

The Sermon on the Mount contains some of the most significant and essential elements of Christian doctrine. Among these is the directive to “turn the other cheek” – a clear endorsement of forgiveness. Moore warned that if Christians begin to regard these teachings as obsolete, it could signal a profound shift in the understanding and application of Christianity in the United States.

Diluting the Core Messages of Christianity

Moore noted that almost every facet of American life has been fragmented along tribal lines – and this divide has extended into the realm of religion. According to him, this amalgamation of political beliefs and spiritual teachings could potentially dilute the core messages of Christianity.

He Suggested a Solution

Moore claimed that substantial changes will not arise from sweeping, nationwide actions. Instead, he suggested the answer lies in small-scale, community-driven initiatives. This localized approach could counteract the effects of political tribalism that are presently impacting Christianity.

No Stranger to Controversy

As the current editor-in-chief of Christianity Today, Moore is no stranger to controversy. He openly criticized Donald Trump during his presidential campaign and has voiced concerns about how the Southern Baptist Convention addresses allegations of SA.

The Fundamental Teachings of Christianity

In a time where the lines between political ideologies and religious teachings are becoming increasingly blurred, Moore’s concerns provide a pertinent reminder that the fundamental teachings of Christianity, which revolve around love, compassion, and humility, should remain untainted by contemporary politics. The responsibility to uphold the sanctity of these teachings lies with religious leaders and congregations alike.

The Internet Responded

Moore’s words were shared across the internet and people had a lot to say. “Jesus was a socialist. We’ve been saying it for years and conservatives are only just noticing? His words aren’t liberal talking points – ‘liberal’ talking points are his words! Right-wing Christians, please wake up. Your politics contradict your supposed religion massively,” one person said. “Jesus was woke,” another echoed.

Some Doubted the Crisis

Some commenters doubted Moore’s alleged crisis. “[Christianity has] been around for over 2,000 years through persecution, executions, genocide, and whatever man could throw at [it] and it will survive 2013 American politics,” one person wrote. “I’m sure Christianity will be just fine,” another said.

Others Doubted Christianity

Others doubted Christianity and religion as a whole. “We live. We die. That’s it, folks. No excuse for anyone believing these fairytales in this day and age,” one person wrote. “All religions need to go. Spirituality is good. But religion? Get rid of it all,” another individual said.

Some Christians Took It as an Opportunity to Preach

Some Christians took the opportunity to scare others into conversion. “Christianity is in no danger. Only those who deny its truth are in danger,” one person wrote. “Always with the threats. No wonder so many people are leaving your religion,” another hit back.
