Biden’s account wasn’t set up very long ago at all and it gained 28,000 followers in only three days. Trump’s campaign account, on the other hand, was set up over a year ago – and it has around 23,800 followers.

Trump has been using his own social media platform since February 2022, a little over a year after the Jan 6th Capitol attack when his accounts on mainstream platforms were suspended “due to the risk of further incitement of violence.”
Trump’s Personal Account
While Biden’s campaign account now has more followers than Trump’s, the criminal defendant’s personal account has 6.45 million followers, making it much larger than both of the campaign pages.
Truths and Retruths
“We just joined, mostly because we thought it would be very funny. Follow us there for truths and retruths or whatever they call them,” Biden’s campaign wrote elsewhere, adding a link to the new page.
Just the Facts
“Well. Let’s see how this goes. Converts welcome,” the first post from Biden’s account on Trump’s platform said. The account description read: “Just the facts, Jack. A project of Biden-Harris 2024.”
Content Criticizing Trump
The Biden account, so far, has been used to spread content criticizing Trump. Moreover, it often posts videos of other GOP members expressing concerns about the former president. A couple of days after it was created, the account posted about the House of Representatives’ efforts to choose a new speaker. It said: “For the first time in modern history, the majority’s nominee for Speaker has received less than 200 votes. Jim Jordan is making history!”
A Reckless Use of Social Media
Trump usually uses the platform to call people names, such as Special Counsel Jack Smith and General Mark Milley. His use of social media has been so reckless that judges have imposed multiple gag orders to prevent him from potentially inciting violence against people involved in his legal battles.

News of the popularity of Biden’s campaign account was shared across the internet and people flocked to comment sections to give their views. One individual said: “He’s doing better than Trump in Trump’s own backyard.”
Reaching More Voters
Another commenter, struggling to see the benefit of Biden having a campaign account on the platform, wrote: “I’m trying to figure out if this was a good or bad move. On one hand, Biden can reach the very small, minuscule amount of voters who might vote for him on that platform.”

The commenter continued: “On the other hand, if he’s attracting more followers than Trump, that means more people are signing up, which means [Trump will] make more revenue from ads. Personally, I don’t see the advantage here.”

One person said there’s no way they’d join the platform even to follow Biden. “Nice but no way I’d sign up for that. It’s a major security breach just waiting to happen. Didn’t they make you upload a picture of your driver’s license when it first got started?” they wrote.
Helping Trump Out
Another commenter said: “As funny as this is, it’s only helping Trump really. The platform was dying and really needed more traffic. I bet more and more people are joining now just to follow the Biden campaign account.”
An Interesting Explanation
Others tried to explain why the Biden account gained so many followers. “Trump’s followers don’t support Trump because of what he likes. They support Trump because he hates all the things they hate,” one individual said.
United by Hate
The commenter continued: “The Republican MAGA people are united by hate. Hate of immigrants, hate of big cities, hate of LGBT+ folks, hate of the Democrats, and hate of Joe Biden. It’s not surprising that Biden is getting a following because all the people hate him together. It’s not like he’s winning over hearts and minds by doing this.”
