A recent poll has suggested that if the presidential election were held today, Biden would come out just ahead of Trump. This is the first time the current president has been ahead of the criminal defendant this election cycle.

The poll, despite favoring the Democrats, was released by Fox News. It suggested that Biden’s victory would be narrow, with him receiving 49% of the vote compared to 48% for Trump. Despite this, it also revealed that both Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley would beat Biden if they were the ones challenging him.
An Important Election
Those weren’t the only insights the poll provided. It also suggested that Americans believe it would be extremely important to vote in a Biden vs. Trump election and less important if a different Republican were to receive the GOP nomination.
Keeping Democrats Tightly Unified
Chris Anderson, a Democrat, organized the poll with Republican Daron Shaw. Anderson said: “A Biden-Trump rematch ignites intense pressure and keeps Democrats tightly united. If the GOP opts for someone other than Trump, the pressure eases and some Democrats may contemplate supporting the Republican – a scenario less likely with Trump as the nominee.”
Black Voters and Women
Biden’s lead over Trump, since 2020, has waned in certain groups. Among Black voters, his lead dropped 17 points. Moreover, it dropped 15 points among women and 12 points among voters under 45 years old.
Republican-Leading Independents
Interestingly, independent voters seem to be leaning toward Republican candidates no matter who the hypothetical nominee was. Regardless, it’s important to remember that polls are generally very inaccurate at early stages like this.
An Independent Candidate
The survey also revealed some insights regarding independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Among Democrats, 13% expressed approval over their own nominee. Among Republicans, 11% said the same.
The Internet’s Response
News of Biden’s small lead was shared across the internet and people flocked to comment sections to give their views. Fans of Trump accused the poll of being published by “liberal media,” despite it coming from Fox News.
Trump and DeSantis
Others celebrated the small victory and claimed that Trump has absolutely no chance of beating Biden. Some people even said they’d rather see the former president win the GOP nomination over someone like DeSantis for that very reason.
A Conspiracy Theory
One commenter wrote: “The liberal-controlled news outlets are just saying Biden is ahead of Trump in all of the polls so when they find 80 million votes for Biden in the middle of the night, people won’t be so shocked and will just blindly accept the results.”
America Deserves Better
Quite a few people took a more neutral stance. “Joe and Don are so bad they’re running neck and neck again! America deserves better than either of them,” one individual wrote. “So sick of Trump vs. Biden. Please give us a decent candidate,” another said.
Hate and Division
Others criticized Trump: “There is no place in America for MAGAts who only strive to promote hate, intolerance, racism, and whatever else their MAGAt cult leader instructs them to. America has had enough of the hate and division created by the GOP. Their time is up.”
It’s About Stopping Trump
Another person wrote: “I for sure want to stop Trump from getting back into power. It’s scary to realize that we and our next generations have to live under the evil authoritarian regime that Trump threatens to set us up.”
Two Bad Options
Another individual said: “I don’t want Biden and I don’t want Trump. Both are too old and one is a crook. We need someone younger who actually knows and has read the Constitution of the United States. One will leave us with Kamala Harris as president and the other [will lead us] into a dictatorship.”
Wake Up, America
Plenty of people said that Biden is the lesser of two evils. “Not a Biden fan but he is better than the dictator wannabe Trump who has a close relationship with Putin, thinks terrorists are smart, and gets love letters from Kim Jong Un. Wake up, America,” one person said.
Trump Has No Chance
A fair few commenters implied that Trump has no chance of winning the election whatsoever One individual wrote: “If Trump is on the ballot instead of jail, he will be slaughtered in the popular vote. Given the recent evidence of his catastrophic mental decline, many old-line Republicans have given up on him and will warn the others that he will be the death of that party.”
The Words of a Dictator
Another person said: “The Republicans are still supporting traitor Trump, who brings no agenda – just words of a dictator. America sees the weak clown show of a MAGA Congress and is disgusted with their behavior and inability to govern.”
Worse Than Biden
Others pointed out the significance of the poll coming from Fox News: “The fact that a Fox News poll is saying Biden is slightly ahead means that, in reality, he’s miles ahead. We all knew that already though. Biden sucks, he really does. But Trump sucks more and is far more dangerous. Most Americans see this.”
