“A Psychotic Landlord on a Power Trip”: Landlord Enrages Internet After Admitting to Freezing Peoples’ Cars in Act of Revenge

In a story that sounds like something out of a creative prankster’s playbook, a social media user has shared a tale of icy revenge involving illegally parked cars in a Chicago suburb.

A Successful Landlord

The poster of the story – who will henceforth be referred to as “OP” – owned two apartment buildings. Their business was successful but, before long, they found themself facing an unexpected challenge as their parking lot began to be overrun by cars belonging to non-tenants. The predicament led to escalating tensions, especially when traditional measures like contacting the authorities failed to yield meaningful results.

An Icy Revenge Plan

In the winter, when the parking lot was not only brimming with unauthorized vehicles but also faced the wrath of freezing temperatures, OP decided to take matters into their own hands – or hoses, rather. Armed with a plan and a set of lawn sprinklers, OP made their move.

OP connected the sprinklers to hot water sources to ensure that the hoses wouldn’t freeze and strategically placed them around the parking lot. They directed streams of water toward the vehicles – and, of course, the water froze. This icy retaliation went on for nearly five hours, encasing the cars in layers of frost.

OP Called the Police

The aftermath was nothing short of dramatic. OP recalled being woken up by furious pounding on their door and incessant doorbell ringing. However, their satisfaction was palpable; they were able to summon the police and witness the culprits’ reactions firsthand.

The Authorities Issued Tickets

The authorities, who found the situation rather amusing, stepped in and proceeded to ticket all the illegally parked vehicles on the private property. Additionally, as a result of their icy entombment, the vehicles were immobilized. This led to the ultimate resolution – towing.

A Lasting Impact

In a world where the news is dominated by death and destruction, this humorous story showcases a peculiar and creative approach to resolving neighborhood disputes. It also serves as a reminder that, sometimes, ingenuity and persistence can lead to unconventional solutions that leave a lasting impact.

Some Commenters Doubted the Story

While the response was quite positive, some commenters doubted the story. “How did people know to knock on your door and ring your bell?” one person asked. “I just assumed they were ringing all the bells to [all] the apartments,” another cleared up.

Certain Bits Didn’t Add Up

A fair few people shared the opinion of the aforementioned commenter. “Zero chance you iced the street as well and the cops just laughed it off,” one person wrote. “What? You don’t believe that cops let OP create a dangerous road hazard, damage vehicles that weren’t theirs, and stood there and laughed at this?” another responded sarcastically.

Some Questioned the Science

Some commenters questioned the science behind OP’s claims. “I might have believed it if he said he used cold water. Using hot water would crack the glass. Putting hot water on freezing cold glass will cause a rapid temperature change which would crack every window and windshield,” one person wrote. “Indeed, especially considering there’s a reason people blow out their sprinkler system before the winter. Any water remaining could crack and destroy the pipes,” another replied.

Others Called OP a Hero

A fair few commenters were thoroughly impressed by OP’s story. One person wrote: “This might be my favorite revenge story I’ve read in a while. I’ve had my car frozen shut from living in a very cold place. It would have taken them forever to thaw their cars and I doubt they live in a place that sells chemical deicers. You hero. Well done.”

A Typical Landlord

The subject of landlords and home ownership can be a controversial one and plenty of commenters refused to shy away from it. “Typical landlord,” one person wrote. “Landlords are gonna landlord, I guess,” another echoed. A third wrote: “I could [understand] if OP needed those parking spaces but it seems like [they] didn’t. And like, isn’t [it] illegal to vandalize someone’s car like that? This is just a psychotic landlord on a power trip.”

Some Shared Person Stories

Some commenters shared personal stories about similar instances. One individual wrote: “I had a rented parking space in Boston and people would often just park in [it] without a care. It was stressful dealing with it after working all day. Eventually, the frustration builds and you don’t [care[ about whoever parked. I towed so many cars. The frustration builds so I get it.”
