“Could This Be Viewed More Than the OJ Trial?”: Trump’s Georgia Election Interference Trial to Be Televised

Former President Donald Trump’s trial for his alleged involvement in attempting to subvert the 2020 presidential election in Georgia will be televised, as confirmed by Fulton County Judge Scott McAfee.

Judge McAfee’s ruling will ensure that all hearings will be accessible to the public through a YouTube livestream, which will be administered by the court itself. The move aims to allow the public to witness the legal proceedings firsthand and promote transparency.

Media Coverage Allowed

In addition to streaming, the judge has also permitted pool coverage for television, photography, and radio –  a decision that will allow various media outlets to cover the trial and share updates with the broader public. Once again, this will promote transparency and public understanding.

Charges Against Trump and Associates

The grand jury in Georgia has presented a total of 13 felony charges against Donald Trump. These charges include offenses like RICO violations, conspiracy to commit forgery, filing false documents, and solicitation of violation of oath by public officers. The legal action also extends to 18 individuals closely associated with Trump, including former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

Trump Pleaded Not Guilty

Trump pleaded not guilty to the charges. Moreover, his legal team argues that the existing timeline does not afford them sufficient time to adequately prepare his defense. The former president surrendered himself at the Fulton County Jail, where he underwent booking procedures. He even had his mug shot taken, which he then capitalized on by putting it on merch.

A Unique Trial

It’s worth noting that the broadcasting of this trial will set it apart from the other three legal cases involving Trump. Those fall under federal jurisdiction and do not allow televised trials or electronic devices for reporters in the courtroom. The decision to televise brings unprecedented transparency to this high-profile case and, as the legal proceedings progress, the world will have the opportunity to closely follow the developments of a trial that could have far-reaching implications.

The Best Broadcast Worldwide

The news was shared across social media and the wider internet and, for the most part, people were very excited about it. “This is going to be the best show worldwide,” one person said. “Oh, man. I’m gonna need so much popcorn for this,” another said.

People Deserve to See the Trial

Others explained why broadcasting the trial is a wonderful idea. One person wrote: “As it should be. The American people deserve to see what is happening in real-time. MAGA will never be convinced but there are millions of Americans out there completely clueless about this stuff and it is 100 times better that they see this instead of hearing about it from [social media] or their crazy uncle.”

The Future Is Wild

Some people speculated about what it would be like to watch the trial in the form of a livestream. One person said: “Imagine you’re watching Trump get convicted on livestream and hearts and thumbs up emojis are just appearing all over the screen. The future is wild.”

Taking Time Off Work

Others went as far as to say they’d take time off work to watch the start of the trial live. “I am so excited! I’ve watched him [mess] up for so long. I’m taking time off to watch its glorious beginning,” one individual said. “I’m gonna be needing to put in a holiday request,” another echoed.

The Most Viewed Trial in History

Some people claimed this could become the most viewed trial in history. “Whoa. Could this be viewed more than the OJ trial? I seriously need to stock up on popcorn,” one person said. “Yeah. This should be the most-watched event ever. Every single citizen of the United States has a vested interest in every single trial stemming from the 2020 coup. The federal courts are doing a disservice to our democracy by not broadcasting every Trump or co-conspirator hearing,” another replied.

Trump’s Fans Would Vote for Hitler

Others discussed the possible reaction to a guilty verdict. “MAGA will refuse to believe if he is found guilty,” one person wrote. “They are not interested in that. They would vote for Hitler if he were resurrected. They just want to ‘own the libs’ by shooting themselves in the foot,” another replied.

The Co-Defendants

Some people wondered whether the co-defendants would have their trials broadcast too. “What about the co-conspirators who have requested speedy trials?” one person asked. “It’s up to the individual judges in Georgia criminal cases whether or not to allow cameras in their courtroom,” another explained.

Plenty of religious leaders claim to have some form of “divine protection” but not many of them are brave enough to attempt to prove it. One pastor, though, did possess that courage – or stupidity – and he locked himself in a cage of lions to make his point.
