“I Wonder How Much Commission Trump Took”: Trump Hosted $100K-A-Plate Dinner to Raise Money for Giuliani’s Legal Bills

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who is facing legal troubles and financial challenges, has been handed a lifeline from his friend and ex-boss, Donald Trump.

A Very Expensive Dinner

Trump hosted an extravagant fundraiser at his Bedminster golf club, with tickets priced at $100,000 per person. The event was an attempt to alleviate Giuliani’s mounting legal fees and financial struggles. However, it remains uncertain whether this gesture will be sufficient.

A Tricky Financial Situation

Giuliani, who faces indictments related to efforts to overturn the 2020 election in Georgia, found himself in a tricky financial situation due to his legal woes. Trump’s political action committee had contributed only $340,000 toward the former mayor’s legal fees as of early September. In a bid for support, Giuliani and his lawyer pleaded with Trump over dinner and private meetings, which eventually led to the former president agreeing to host fundraisers.

The first fundraiser took place at Bedminster, Trump’s golf club in New Jersey. It was promoted as an “evening in support of America’s Mayor.” The event offered a round table with Trump and Giuliani followed by dinner – and tickets cost a whopping $100,000 per person, with expectations of raising over $1 million.

A Second Fundraiser

While the aforementioned assistance was deemed helpful, Giuliani’s son, Andrew, said that it might not be sufficient to address his father’s financial challenges. Reportedly, a second fundraiser event is planned and will take place at Mar-a-Lago.

Giuliani’s Manhattan Apartment Sale

Giuliani decided to sell his Upper East Side apartment for $6.5 million. The three-bedroom property, located in a heritage building dating back to 1906, features high ceilings, hardwood floors, and abundant natural light.

A Tainted Apartment

It’s worth noting that the apartment in question has been tainted by various allegations and scandals, including a raid by the FBI in April 2021 as part of an investigation into Giuliani’s activities related to the Trump-Ukraine political scandal.

Additional Legal Troubles and Scandals

Giuliani has also been accused of sexual assault by his former assistant, Noelle Dunphy, who filed a $10 million lawsuit in May. The lawsuit alleges harassment and wage theft and claims that Giuliani insisted on Dunphy staying in a guest suite in his apartment. The former mayor has vehemently denied these allegations.

A False Narrative

Furthermore, Giuliani was found liable for defaming two election workers in Georgia following the 2020 election, and Dominion Voting Systems still has a pending lawsuit against him for promoting a false narrative about election fraud.

Violating Free Speech Rights

Giuliani has not taken these legal challenges lying down. He’s criticized special counsel Jack Smith, who handed down Trump’s indictment related to the U.S. Capitol incident. Giuliani accused Smith of unethical conduct and violating free speech rights.

A Lavish Manhattan Residence

Despite its association with Giuliani’s legal troubles, the Manhattan apartment remains a prime piece of upmarket real estate. The property was at the center of a high-profile divorce between Giuliani and his third ex-wife, Judith Nathan, in 2019. The couple’s extravagant monthly spending habits, including thousands spent on fountain pens and cigars, were exposed during the divorce proceedings. Whoever acquires this apartment next will inherit a luxurious residence with a history of drama.

Trump Is a Billionaire

News of the dinner was shared across social media and people were largely critical. “One of these two clowns is supposed to be a billionaire. Why is there a shortage of funds?” one person said. “Couldn’t Trump just, you know, give him more money?” another echoed.

Not the GOP Way

Others imagined a world in which the ultra-rich helped the poor rather than each other. One person said: “Just think of what the poor and needy could do with that money.  Of course, that’s not the GOP way.”

Paying $100,000 for a Dinner

Some people found it hard to believe that people would pay such a large sum of money to attend a dinner. “Who in their right mind would pay $100k to chew on a stale quarter pounder with cheese,” one person said.

Money and Crime

Others discussed Giuliani’s pricey apartment. One person said: “Gee, didn’t know that being a mayor of a city paid enough to purchase an Upper East Side [apartment] that is part of the historic landmarks. That was some paychecks he got. Looks like crime does pay nicely at times.”

Exploring Trump’s Motivations

Others speculated about why Trump might have hosted the fundraiser. “This is 100% in exchange for Giuliani keeping his mouth shut. Trump doesn’t do things out of the kindness of his heart,” one person said. “I wonder how much commission Trump took,” another added.

Trump’s Billionaire Status

A fair few commenters questioned Trump’s billionaire status. One person said: “Remember when Trump bragged that he would pay someone’s legal fees if they punched a guy at one of his campaign stops? He never paid nor does he pay out of pocket since he’s not the billionaire guy that people believe.”

The Worst Humans Alive

Others discussed the type of people who’d attend the dinner. “The people who are willing to pay $100k for this fundraiser have got to be a list of the worst humans currently alive,” one person said. “Who’d want to help though? Actually, that was a stupid question. People who can afford to spend that on a dinner likely don’t have the best morals,” another wrote.

A Self-Proclaimed Billionaire

Another person said: “So the self-proclaimed billionaire won’t pay to cover the expenses for his friend but wants everyone else to foot the bill? This pretty much tells you everything you need to know about what kind of guy Donald really is.”

Plenty of religious leaders claim to have some form of “divine protection” but not many of them are brave enough to attempt to prove it. One pastor, though, did possess that courage – or stupidity – and he locked himself in a cage of lions to make his point.
