Donald Trump has a very apparent history of attacking and threatening those he doesn’t like. It would seem that as more and more things don’t go the criminal defendant’s way, the more worrisome his threats become.
A Clear Attempt to Intimidate

Trump’s attacks have targeted people like Kevin McCarthy, Letitia James, and Jack Smith, often with words like “traitor” and “monster.” His use of such language is a clear attempt to intimidate people and undermine the American public’s trust in the legal system.
Pardons for Insurrectionists

Trump promised “full pardons with an apology to many” for individuals convicted of crimes related to the Jan 6th insurrection, a terrifying indicator of his far-right agenda. These people ran through the Capitol shouting, “Hang Mike Pence!”
A Lust for Power

Another indicator of the criminal defendant’s lust for authoritarian power is Kevin McCarthy’s removal from the speaker role. Trump said he’d happily take on the job, proving he simply relishes controlling others.
Calling for Execution

Rather concerningly, Trump seemingly called for Mark Milley, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, to be executed. He also called McCarthy a “traitor” and described New York State Attorney General Letitia James as a “monster” and a “deranged lunatic.”
More Personal Attacks

The criminal defendant also referred to Special Counsel Jack Smith as a “deranged psycho” and said that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is “racist.” Moreover, he used the terms “animal” and “degenerate psychopath” to describe Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
Trump’s False Accusations

Trump has a history of making false claims about those who disagree with him. He accused a clerk in the New York courtroom of being Senator Charles Schumer’s girlfriend and said that Former White House Chief of Staff John Kelly was “by far the dumbest of my military people.”
Far-Right Fascism

It’s clear that the former president has no moral issue with intimidating, making false accusations about, and calling for the death penalty for those who oppose him. These fascist tendencies, along with his history of using similar tactics to authoritarian figures like Adolf Hitler, are a strong indicator that the United States is on a path to far-right fascism.
The Public Opinion

Trump’s fascist tendencies have been discussed and debated thoroughly over the past few years. One social media commenter said: “A theocratic dictatorship is the end goal. It’s been clear for years. A shocking amount of Americans are totally fine with throwing the Constitution in the garbage if it means they have more power.”
A Theocratic Dictatorship

Replying to the aforementioned commenter, another person wrote: “A large number of those Americans who want that theocratic dictatorship don’t really understand what that entails either. They think it’s a dictatorship installed on a Friday then, after the weekend, the U.S. goes back to normal like nothing happened. Ironically, most of that MAGA cult is dirt poor and still won’t be a part of the ‘in-group’ they think they are a part of now.”
Trump’s Divine Authority

Another commenter said: “This is exactly what fascism looks like and fascism is exactly what the GOP of today stands for. It’s a lot like why they love to talk about ‘law and order.’ They firmly believe Trump and all who bow down before him are above the law – law is only there to bring order to those who refuse to submit to Trump’s divine authority.”
This Is Not Freedom

Others discussed the authoritarian mindsets of Trump’s fans: “No freedom-loving American supports Donald Trump. His supporters are all people who want their beliefs to be law. That isn’t freedom. They want everyone to have to conform to how they think. That is not freedom. When his supporters talk about freedom, they only mean freedom for them, not anyone else.”
Destroying America From Within

Another person wrote: “Republicans aren’t patriots, they’re xenophobic nationalists. Republicans hate what America actually is since it’s moving further and further from what they want. Republicans will work tirelessly to destroy America from within if they cannot have it made purely in their image.”
Trump’s Dictatorship Dreams

Others discussed Trump’s openness about his dictatorship dreams: “Let’s not forget that [Trump] wants to increase the number of terms a president can serve. The [GOP] is now trying to significantly increase the amount of power a president has in case he wins the next election.”
The Rise of Nazi Germany

Another commenter said: “[Trump’s supporters] refuse to study the rise of Nazi Germany to see the correlation in legislation. Republicans are baby-stepping forward, slowly taking democracy away. It’s all black and white and easily learned if you take the time to read.”
The Subtle Art of Brainwashing

Others discussed the subject of brainwashing and tried to figure out why Trump has seemingly been so successful at it. One person said: “Brainwashing is a slow process. It’s subtle. Combine that with the fact that most of Trump’s followers lack critical thinking skills – that’s not a dig, that’s a fact – and you have the perfect storm for a devoted cult following that can rationalize anything their leader does or says.”
Maintaining Power and Control

Some people discussed the fluid tactics of the far-right. One commenter wrote: “Right-wing authoritarianism does not have a true moral backbone. Its ideals are fluid and change with the times to whatever needs to be convenient to maintain power and control.”
Traitors in America

Another individual said: “Trump stands for everything that America isn’t. There are a lot more traitors within the U.S. than most would assume. Jan 6th was just those who were foolish enough to expose themselves. Plenty more are still hiding out there across the country.”
Trump and Dictators

In response to Trump’s praise of dictators like Putin, one commenter wrote: “I bet you every last one of these people who agree with Trump about these authoritarians would cry a river if they had to live under any one of them. They are just agreeing with Trump because his base doesn’t like the current administration for no reason other than identity politics.”
