It’s no secret that Trump’s legal troubles are getting worse and worse. Now, the Republican Party is attacking the Department of Justice and the FBI in an attempt to save him.
The Party of Law and Order
The Republican Party was once known as “the party of law and order.” Now, it would seem, it’s much the opposite. Speaking to The Guardian, Larry Sabato – director of the Center for Politics at the University of Virginia – said: “I often think, what would Richard Nixon say?”
The Paranoid Party
Sabato continued: “He was the original ‘law and order’ president with that slogan. What would he think now the party is going after the primary institutions of law and order, at least at the federal level? The law and order party has become the paranoid party.”
Christopher Wray Impeachment Articles
The word “weaponization” has been thrown around a lot by House Republicans in recent years, especially in regard to the Department of Justice and the FBI. Marjorie Taylor Greene even introduced impeachment articles against the FBI’s director, Christopher Wray.
The Biden Regime
“The FBI has intimidated, harassed, and entrapped American citizens that have been deemed enemies of the Biden regime,” Greene said, also claiming Wray “has turned the FBI into Joe Biden and Merrick Garland’s police force.”
The Party of MAGA
Kyle Herrig, executive director of the Congressional Integrity Project watchdog, said: “The party of MAGA is following the leader, Donald Trump, who is currently in serious legal troubles across the country. The party seems willing to try to deflect from those legal problems by running interference vis-a-vis investigations that they’re doing in Congress. What they’re doing is playing 30% of their base without realizing you need another 20% to win elections.”
An Unhinged View
Larry Jacobs, director of the Center for the Study of Politics and Governance at the University of Minnesota, said that nobody believes the FBI and the Department of Justice are corrupt except far-right Republicans. “You don’t see support for this unhinged view that the justice department and the FBI are somehow corrupt. There’s no support for that except in the fringe of the Republican Party,” he said.
Donald Trump’s Words
On social media, criminal defendant Trump has called for the defunding of the FBI on multiple occasions. “The radical left investigations of me now, federal, state, and city, are a scam and continuation, tightly coordinated with each jurisdiction and run by the now fully exposed as being corrupt and shameless DOJ [and] FBI,” he said in one post.
The Hypocrisy of the GOP
Journalist Kurt Bardella summed up the situation very well. He said: “It seems like Republicans love the idea of law enforcement except when it comes to white-collar crime and when it comes to people of their own.”
The Internet’s Response
The GOP’s attacks on the FBI and the Department of Justice have been discussed a lot on the internet in recent months. One commenter wrote: “We shouldn’t be surprised at these attacks. The Republicans [and] Trump have been undermining the FBI [and] DOJ for years, sewing doubt and resentment amongst their supporters.”
The Criminal Party
One person disagreed with Sabato’s “paranoid party” remark about the GOP. They said: “The Republican Party is not paranoid. It is criminal. It needs to discredit and destroy anyone who can expose its criminality.”
The Future of the GOP
Others theorized about the GOP’s future. One commenter wrote: “The worst part is that Republicans, a few years from now, will go back to pretending they are the law and order party and a bunch of folks will believe them.”
A Delusional Cult
One person discussed the mentality of Trump’s supporters. They said: “What’s beautiful is that Cult 45 actually thinks they’re winning. They are a minority of real Americans – religious and atheists, Republicans and Dems. They think they are the majority and will proclaim any number of lies when they lose.”
Trump and the DOJ
Another commenter wrote: “The MAGA people always forget that it was Trump who tried to weaponize the DOJ against his enemies, not the Democrats. And if they pulled their heads out of the sand and listened to the orange loser, he plans on doing the exact same thing if elected again. MAGA people are not to be trusted in any position of power.”
The Party of Criminality
Others were much harsher with their words. One such person said: “Well sure, the party of criminality and domestic terrorists would want to wage war on those that want to lock up their criminal trash! Fascist Republicans are the lowest scum ever in our country. Only stupid treasonous losers would ever vote for any of that scum.”
The Orange Moron Swamp
One commenter said that far-right Republicans only care about revenge, not law. “These crazies don’t care about anything else except revenge against Democrats. They continue to prove they are a total failure at governing! They just keep digging themselves deeper into the Orange Moron swamp,” they wrote.
So Many Crimes
Others said Republicans are scared they’ll be next to be called out for criminal activity. One person commented: “It’s obvious that the GOP is attacking the DOJ because Republican politicians themselves have committed so many crimes and they know they could be next after Trump. They’re panicking and this is a last-ditch attempt to save themselves – and him.”
A Worthless Party
Another individual wrote: “Republican radicals are washing themselves down the drain. The total foolishness of the Republican Party and its stubborn refusal to clean its own house has rendered it ineffectual and nearly worthless.”
A Different Perspective
While most commenters criticized the GOP for its attacks on the DOJ and FBI, some people defended it from time to time. “The FBI is corrupt though,” one person said. “It’s not paranoia. They’re right. There is definitely corruption in the Department of Justice,” another wrote.
