Erin Burnett, a CNN journalist who has previously sat as a guest judge on The Celebrity Apprentice, has come under fire from Donald Trump, who calls her “not smart, and very boring.”
“Jim Acosta- A Rude, Terrible Person”
The former president, who is currently the leading Republican candidate for president in 2024, made the remarks on his Truth Social website. Trump has long been at odds with CNN and has called the network’s content “fake news” on several occasions. He referred to Jim Acosta, the network’s main White House correspondent at the time, as a “rude, terrible person” in a news conference in 2018. It’s unclear whether there was a particular event that led to Trump’s criticism of Burnett.

The former president wrote on Truth Social: “Ratings challenged Erin Burnett, the Fake News CNN Host(ess?) who is constantly and very boringly reporting false and semi-inflammatory stories about your favorite President, used to call me, over and over again, in my prior, beautiful, and very simple life, to get herself on The Apprentice, ‘a ratings phenomenon’ (Variety).”
“Finally Told Her Sorry, No More”
Trump further remarked, “She would do ANYTHING! I let her on the show a number of times, but her calls didn’t stop, and I finally told her, ‘Sorry, no more.’ The fact is she was not smart, and very boring, much like she is today on her soon-to-be canceled (???) show – put it to sleep! Anyway, just sayin’.”
“Very Much the Person Now That He Was Then”
In the past, Burnett stood in for Ivanka Trump as a guest judge on several episodes of The Celebrity Apprentice. In a SiriusXM interview from 2017, Burnett said the president was “very much the same person now as he was then.” “He is very convincing when he wants to talk to people… as a person, he was always courteous.”
“Appeal May Work Out for Trump”: Cobb
In an interview with Ty Cobb, a former member of Trump’s legal team, on Wednesday, Burnett discussed the former president’s decision to appeal the New York judge’s finding that he committed corporate fraud by misrepresenting the worth of his properties. When asked “is this appeal going to go anywhere for Trump?” Cobb said, “So I think it’s possible that it does,” claiming the judgement was a little bit overly harsh in its punishments.
Cases Against the Former President
In addition, there are four criminal cases against Trump involving claims that he handled classified documents improperly, paid hush money to a pornographic actress, and broke the law in Georgia and across the country in an effort to rig the 2020 presidential election. He has entered a not-guilty plea to all counts and maintains that he is the victim of politically motivated prosecution.

In an interview earlier this week, Mr. Trump said that immigrants were “poisoning the blood of our country,” the latest in a string of irrational remarks as he battles four criminal indictments and a high-profile fraud trial in New York. On CNN’s Outfront on Friday, Ms. Burnett stated that the phrase “poisoning the blood” was “used repeatedly by Hitler” in an interview with Republican Congressman Anthony D’Esposito.

Burnett called Republican Rep. Anthony D’Esposito (R-NY) out for supporting the former president, but the congressman remained silent. “I want to ask you one other question tonight, about former President Trump. He’s coming under fire for making anti-immigrant comments in an interview. Some of this comes and echoes language used by white supremacists. I want to play for you what he said,” Erin said.
“People Are Coming in With Disease”
There was a video of Donald saying, “Nobody has ever seen anything like we are witnessing right now,” on the television. “It is a very sad thing for our country. It’s poisoning the blood of our country. It’s so bad. And people are coming in with disease, people are coming in with every possible thing that you can have.”
“We Know They Come From Mental Institutions”
The former president lambasted migrants crossing the southern border into the US in a statement to National Pulse. “We know they come from mental institutions and insane asylums. We know they’re terrorists. Nobody has ever seen anything like we’re witnessing right now. It is a very sad thing for our country. It’s poisoning the blood of our country,” he declared.
“Perhaps Not the Best Choice of Words”
“Just to be clear, Congressman, the specific reference to poisoning the blood, blood poisoning was a phrase that Hitler used repeatedly, very specifically, blood poisoning,” Erin said. “So, what’s this — what’s your reaction when you hear this sort of language? What he said, altogether, from the former president?” she questioned the representative. “Well, perhaps not the best choice of words,” responded Anthony.
