However, a large portion of his somber and occasionally vulgar speech was devoted to discussing the criminal and civil cases brought against him. At one point, he even implied that he would serve a similar sentence to the former president of South Africa, who was given a Nobel Peace Prize after spending 27 years in jail for opposing the country’s apartheid system.

Despite winning the Republican primary in New Hampshire in both 2016 and 2020, Trump did not win the state in the ensuing general elections. Eight years ago, on the opening day of the filing period, Trump registered for the 2016 election. He then dispatched Vice President Mike Pence to file his papers for the 2020 contest. That was customary for past incumbents who sent surrogates as well, but his Monday return was unprecedented.

The security surrounding his arrival was also unusual. Access to the Statehouse was limited, and only supporters chosen by the campaign were permitted to line the corridor leading to the secretary of state’s office. He made advantage of the experience in 2015, in part, to extol his own fortune. According to Trump, “they wanted a cashier’s check.” “This comes from a bank that isn’t as wealthy as we are in reality.”

But Trump is incapable of bringing us together, Democratic U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan stated. “We are the Live Free or Die State: We have no use for a man who would overturn our elections or praise dictators.
