Moreover, Trump asserted that his successor –  President Biden – may take a different approach regarding such business opportunities. Ultimately, he stood by his decision to prioritize his idea of ethical governance and vowed to continue doing so in the future.

Trump’s complaint came in the wake of reports suggesting that his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, may have garnered favor with the Saudi Arabian government after Trump’s presidency. In his monologue, the former president asserted that the country was eager to strike deals but that he had declined such opportunities.

What Trump Said

The former President and potential felon said: “I could have made so much money. I could have. Sir would love to do a deal in Saudi Arabia. Sir would love to do a deal here and there. Would love to do a deal. I really can’t do that. Biden would do it! So we just, we did it right. We did the right thing and I do it exactly that way again and I will do it that way.”

Trump’s Recent Claims

In a deposition related to the New York Attorney General’s civil fraud case against him, the former president defended his property valuations by asserting that the Saudis were willing to overpay for his real estate holdings. He cited an example of how selling his Turnberry property to the Saudis could yield a substantial profit, far exceeding its actual value.

A Different Example

In another instance during the deposition, Trump stated that his Silver Springs property was worth $291 million according to his financial statement. He claimed it was the most valuable house in New York and that selling it to the Saudis could fetch that amount.

Involvement With Saudi-Backed LIV Golf

Trump’s connection to the Saudi-backed LIV Golf has also come under scrutiny. This organization has hosted multiple golf events at Trump’s properties, raising questions about potential business ties and the intersection of politics and personal interests during his presidency.

These developments shed light on Trump’s perspective regarding missed business opportunities during his tenure as president, adding to the ongoing discourse about the ethical implications of his actions and financial interests while in office.

A Hypocritical Take

News of Trump’s words was shared across the internet and people were highly critical. People found him to be hypocritical in his implication that he prioritized ethics over money – something the former president undoubtedly did not do during his time in office and throughout his business career.

Trump Has No Standards

One social media commenter said: “The man has no standards. He would literally do and say anything that would give him or his family an advantage or get him out of trouble. He has always been divisive but he especially excelled at trying to bring other people down and slinging mud in an attempt to make himself look better.”

Trump Never Takes Responsibility

The commenter continued: “He still does this even now with his legal problems by going after everyone that ‘did him wrong’ – including judges, lawyers, and congressmen – instead of owning up to his mistakes and taking responsibility for his actions. The man has the emotional intelligence of a 5-year-old. Literally.”

The Gullibility and Naivety of Trump’s Fans

Others made jokes about how gullible and naive Trump’s fans tend to be. “How many Trump supporters does it take to change a lightbulb? None. Trump says it’s done and they all cheer in the dark,” one individual wrote.

Others Doubted Trump

A fair few commenters doubted the former president’s claim that he didn’t make much money from Saudi Arabia. “Whenever the loser says he didn’t do something – that is evidence that he already did it,” one individual wrote.

A Contradiction From Trump

Others echoed the aforementioned commenter but explained their opinions further. One person said: “I remember him saying the exact opposite [and] bragging that he was the only president that made money while in the White House. He’s just trying to get more money by crying poor because he’s out of money to pay for his lawyers.”

Controversies and Conflicts of Interest

Some people were surprised by the former president’s words. One person said: “It’s honestly a bit surprising to hear Trump talking about ethical governance. I mean, we all know he’s a businessman, so hearing him whine about not making enough money is a bit weird. But then he brings up ethical governance. What? His presidency was filled with controversies and conflicts of interest.”

Any Publicity Is Good Publicity

Others talked about the potential deeper intentions behind the former president’s words. One individual wrote: “It’s funny how Trump mentions Saudi Arabia specifically. That’s been a hot topic for a while when it comes to US foreign policy and business interests for ages. He’s intentionally trying to make headlines. Any publicity is good publicity, right?”

So Many Lies

Some people addressed Trump’s claims about Biden. One person said: “His statement about doing it the same way again in the future is quite definitive. I think he’s also trying to give his fans a sort of comfort, telling them that he’ll make things exactly the way they were while he was president. Also, what does he mean by ‘Biden would do it?’ So many lies.”

Trump Supporters and Ethics

Others discussed Trump’s fans and wondered how they’d react to his words. One person wrote: “I wonder how Trump’s supporters feel about this. It was my understanding that the far-right supports Saudi Arabia. So surely his supporters don’t care about the ‘ethics’ here?”
